Enjoying a Sticky Fingers party

Cupcake making

If you enjoy working with children, love cooking and want a low start-up cost for running your own business, then Sticky Fingers Children’s party and cookery workshop franchise could be for you!

There are several ways to generate income from this exciting business: children’s cookery parties; pre-school and after school workshops; nurseries and holiday clubs where the Great British Bake-off has been our leading influence.  Our Children’s Cookery sessions are both fun and educational.

We have designed the franchise to be flexible, so that you can either run a couple of sessions per week to fit in with your family, concentrate on weekend parties, or do all of this to generate a full-time income.

You will be buying into a brand that has already enjoyed great success.   After 9 years of delivering cookery parties and holiday bake-off sessions to Children in Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire, Janet Cousins, the founder, recruited her first two franchisees in 2016.  Janet’s background was in catering, teaching cookery and food hygiene, frequently to workers in Early Years and Children’s Centres for the local County Council. Janet built on her knowledge and experience over the years to create a package that ensures everything runs smoothly.

All initial training is given together with an Operations Manual which lays out everything you need to know.  It can be used as an instant reference and is in digital format and hard copy.  You will also have your own page on our website enabling you to display your current activities, photographs and any information you would like to impart to visitors to the site.  You will receive ongoing support from Janet, who is always available to contact via phone, email or skype and engaging with other franchisees will help to reinforce what you are doing.  Sticky Fingers will also advise on how to market your business to generate a regular supply of eager customers and give help with setting up your accounts.

Who we are looking for

You do not need any experience to start the franchise as full training will be given.  However, you must enjoy cooking and the company of children, and uphold our values and commitment to delivering the best possible experience for every party and workshop.  You will also need to be sociable and have the drive and enthusiasm to build your business over time, with lots of energy to run the parties.  It is also important to be well-organised as this can benefit both you and your clients in the weeks before a party.  You will be required to undertake basic Food Hygiene training, which we can provide and obtain a DBS Certificate.

Investment Required

The franchise License costs £975 and includes an equipment starter pack; use of intellectual property such as Brand,  Name, Method and Logo; digital templates; operations manual (hard copy and digital); a set of embroidered logo aprons, exclusive geographical area; your own page on our website; initial training and regular ongoing support.

Earning Potential

As a franchisee, you can expect to earn on average £135 net per party after all expenses and royalties have been paid.  This does not include any additional income you could generate through sales of merchandise, birthday cakes etc.  Larger parties choosing the Gold or Platinum package will generate in excess of £200 per party.  The pre and after-school classes and holiday clubs can also generate a steady income on a weekly basis.

Best suited to:

Our franchises can suit a variety of people who want to work around family commitments.  They are also suitable for people who would like to ease off their pressured full-time jobs for something a little more fun and relaxing.  You can be your own boss, yet have the encouragement and support from Janet and other franchisees.  There are no set targets for our franchisees.

Thoughts from a Party Director- One Year On…….

"I came across Sticky Fingers Cookery Parties after doing a bit of internet research into children’s cookery clubs and parties. I continue to work hard in my clinical career in the NHS, but cooking has always been my hobby and is something I am keen to pursue more. I also have a vested interest in helping children to develop cookery skills, ever since I became aware that cookery in schools is nothing like the subject I was taught!

The ethos of Sticky Fingers as a fun and educational concept sowed a seed, and, after a couple of long conversations with Janet, I arranged to observe the party model in the form of a workshop.

From then on I was hooked, and my journey as a party director began.

Janet has done a huge amount of groundwork, providing the party director with a tried and tested model as well as all the detail we need to achieve a well-run, as well as fun, party. The template for each party package is well-structured and uncomplicated and I would advise others that it is there for a reason- practice at home first and with each party will come additional personal adjustments to help perfect the timing and the flow. However, it is also important to remember that every party is different, as we are dealing with different groups of children (and parents!). Being able to adapt to different situations and adjust timing is an important skill which I think I already had, but continues to develop.

Our party packages provide focused continuous activity for the children with the emphasis on the cooking and completion of the whole product. For example, a cup cake party involves making the cakes from scratch, decorating the cake box in which the cakes will be taken home, and finally – each child decorating their own set of cakes.

The simplicity of the model makes it easier for parents, from choosing their party package to the provision of food and drinks and the complete entertainment of the children. With the emphasis on practical (with cookery skills and craft activities), traditional (the simple party food) and structured (children are kept busy for the whole 2 hours) …children have fun in a stress- free environment for parents!

Over the last year I have had a lot of fun doing the parties, meeting children and parents, and getting great feedback. I have been hugely supported by Janet who enables independent working under the professional umbrella of the Sticky Fingers business. We have good communication and are continually discussing new developments. I would recommend Sticky Fingers to others who may be considering turning a hobby into a business, it was absolutely the right decision for me."

7th Birthday Party

The party was for my daughter's 7th birthday & was for her & 7 friends. The girls were kept entertained for the whole 2 hours.

The party was very well organised and was the least hassle for me as a parent of any of the various birthday parties we have held. Janet had just the right mix of fun & control. She ensured everyone had a turn at all the elements of cake making.

I felt the time filling activities of decorating chefs hats and cake boxes were a great idea too whilst the cakes were baking. I also felt it was good value for money.

Only slight criticism is that there wasn't a huge amount of pizza to eat. I know the girls would have eaten more of it if it was there and they were also limited to one jug of squash and then had to have water if they wanted more to drink. Regardless of this, we all had a great time.
